NPC Considerations
Players have always been able to request temporary NPC (Non-Player Character) permission, but NPCs have never been able to be cornerstones of plots with complicated CR of their own like a more standard PC (Player Character) antagonizer. Considering that, and that it might make canon changes more interactive for cross-series CR, we've been throwing around the idea of allowing players to apply to play NPCs in limited capacities.

What would be different about applying for an NPC?

An NPC wouldn't be beholden to activity checks, but would also have an expiration date. Applications may also call for a description of the intended plot and how their presence for the duration of the plot could influence multiple player characters.

Considerations such as how likely someone is to want to play the character as a traditional player character may also be considered; while a one-off NPC can create fun frictions between player characters, a player character who does it is even better.

An NPC with no particular personality or who would not be appable as a standard character is another possibility. Examples include Gossip Girl, the account which used to post IC Secrets, the Weeping Angels, or more vague entities.
