ANN: clarification of personal journals and etc.
Due to the influx of questions regarding the usage of personal journals within the structure of the game, we have decided that a clarification post would be a good measure. We realize that over time that these bits and pieces have gotten lost or smudged with the movement of the game - but, please bear with us for just a moment while we go through a lot of specifics:
The Community:
While we realize it has been a house for all things as of late, the Community's original purpose was to serve as a "news-feed" or a spot of advice-getting. If you want to imagine something like an internet home page that displays the recent highlights of world news and etc., that would be a good comparison! At the outset, it was for clips, news, advice, and so on relating to the progression of canon or other such plots. Similarly, general advice-getting, questioning, challenges, and memetic things (anon posts) are all fair game! For example: Lockon asking the Community how to get glitter out of delicate mechanics would go here. Essentially, it is there to converse gradually with others and develop CR based on the troubles and times. We realize with the growth and age of the game, it has gotten a bit skewed with highly personal business. Ergo, it brings us to this point:
Personal Journals & Your Character:
Originally, the personal journals were used as a house for everything else, including RLs. A personal journal, if you could imagine, that is very much like our own personal journals. It would be like, well, keeping a diary that one could read - like on DW. There would be more personal entries there, like a private complaint session, general musing, or a locked post to a small number of people. The subjects are endless. So, like a DW personal journal, any character could also tag in at any time they wished! It is like kind of exploring another person's journal for the first time because they seemed interesting on a community somewhere. You don't have to necessarily know them, and we think that this could open up some fun functions like "spamming" or "anonymous trolling". Just to name two.
On top of this, the Community was designed to automatically "friend add" your characters to everyone's journals. So, everyone should have access to everyone! Also, no, you can't remove them. My deepest apologies to those characters that must suffer now the flood. Hahahah.
In Summation:
The main Community, therefore, should not be used as a catch-all! Private things go to the journals, public things go to the Community - as a general guideline, anyway! If you wouldn't share with everyone at large what is happening, then it's a safe bet you'd post it in the journals.
With all that said, if there are any questions you would like to pose to us regarding this clarification, please feel free!
Addendum:
Also, we would like to remind you and encourage you to get creative with your canon moves! While we realize it might be harder when it comes to some characters to get an update rolling, it does not always have to be framed as an accidental video post. Just a thing to keep in mind, guys!
Keep on shining, you crazy diamonds.
