Serious business poll time, guys. I know most of the comm has been following the recent LJ shenanigans. Most of the discussion has been on plurk, and while that gives us a general picture of what the playerbase feels, we need an accurate count.

[Poll #1805369]

Some things to consider:

- Invite codes are not required for Dreamwidth right now.
- On Dreamwidth, you can import your entire journal, entries, comments, profile, and all.
- Dreamwidth is working on an import community feature-- we would literally be copying over the entire four years of entries.

Full disclosure: the mod team would like to move. But there will be no move if the majority are against it. If there's a substantial minority that are against it, we'll also weigh our options-- to help us, if you're not sure of your opinion or have reservations, please comment, and we'll 100% work on making everyone the happiest that we can.

Also, this poll is not going anywhere until midway through January, as far as we're concerned-- we're not going to pull the rug out from under anyone in terms of a decision.

UPDATE: I asked, and importing DDD would take 2-3 days, tops.

Also, just to clarify a bit-- this isn't really about the layout. If it was a visual thing we'd grumble a bit and work around it as usual. It's a question of functionality-- several members can't actually get the new layout to load-- and also a question of treatment of paying customers. Most of the responses from higher-ups in LJ have been downright rude, whereas as you can see, I literally got a response within half an hour from DW.

SON OF UPDATE: This is a post outlining the differences between DW and LJ accounts, mostly the different features as they apply to RP.

If the game stays I'll stay, and if the game moves I'll move. I love this game far too much to leave it.

Whoops, sorry, the answer with [livejournal.com profile] dynast_seraph was me ^^;

I should add that my answer is really "Yes, but I'll follow the game" - meaning I'll still be here if it doesn't move.

[identity profile] killerbaseball.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, see above.

I'll go with the game but my main concern is my character's CR going with them. I have no problem going, but it'd be a sure thing if canonmates and such went with them.

I would really like to move, but ultimately, the reason I am on the internet is DDD, so basically I will go with whatever the game decides to do.

I'd rather not move, to be honest. But I will go if the game goes.

Is there any particular reason? Like I said, we'll seriously do whatever we can to make it easier, if we do end up moving.

Lii here -

Pretty much seconding what everyone's saying, if the game moves, I'll move as well, I already have an account for Rei and will probably set one up for Trevor as well in the off-chance we do end up moving.

Also, this is most likely a dumb question, but will apps and/or reserves close temporary if we do move? I'm curious what would actually happen during the possible move.

I am personally very much in favor of Dreamwidth at the moment but I'm concerned enough about the reluctance of others to move and whether Dreamwidth will get comm importing up that I don't want to push either way. I'll support whatever the players and the modteam decide.

[identity profile] to-philotimo.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll stay here if the majority wants it, but I'd definitely follow DDD if it moved. Dreamwidth is sounding pretty good to me, especially if that import community thing pans out, but I'll stay with DDD wherever it happens to be at.

[identity profile] likethetragedy.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd really like to leave at this point. I think things have reached the point of absolute insanity with lj between this and the ddos attacks. If you guys are adamant about staying though I'll keeping working around it.

[identity profile] quidditch-stag.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather not move, partly for the hassle, and partly because it might be okay in the end. But if DDD are moving, I'm not going to not follow. /two cents

[identity profile] walktoparadise.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I am generally not a very noisy person with my opinions, but I have notably made several heavy exceptions over the last few days. Today is not any different. But, I have to say, I am immensely glad for this opportunity to healthily air concerns. I thank you guys so much. I really wish my phrases for gratitude weren't so limited, but - well, I always gripe about that.

However, moving on to the main point of this comment:

In thinking of the individuals who will not be able to access the site if the new set of overhauls roll out (never mind already), those who have extremely legitimate issues with the lack of subject lines (PTSD triggers, etc.), the utter disrespect cast by the ljstaff, and those who no longer feel safe (automatic renewal "glitch", privacy violations, etc.) -- I feel as though a move would ultimately be best. Not everyone is able to avoid any and all of these problems, and thus this is where my main concern lies with remaining on LJ. The denial of rollbacks also concerns me, as LJ again has displayed their inability to listen to their customers. However, that being said, I absolutely respect the opinions of everyone else. These worries, I realize, are of those who are like-minded in this scenario.

Even so, personally, I am all for the move. My reasons even exceed those I have listed in support of the move, but I do not feel entirely comfortable sharing them. Therefore, I'll have to leave it there. Even so, I have to thank you guys again for this opportunity and this poll. It really does mean a lot. ;;

Yeah, honestly, if it were only a visual thing I can't imagine many people would care-- but I know of more than a few people in the game, Setine and China for example, who literally cannot access LJ comments now because of the new Java programming. That's what I most worry about in terms of staying.

I'd go where the game goes. Buuuut I'd still like to give LJ a chance to fix this. Besides subject headers missing and the parent/thread/preview options gone, I don't *mind* the look.

Honestly, I'm not really keen on moving despite Dreamwidth's overwhelming generosity (and despite having spent the better part of the last day nabbing journals in case of such a move) but I won't drop the game if we move.

However, I'm glad to hear that the poll is extended to at least mid-January because that's something I would have requested, rather than an immediate jump and such... It'll give people time to see what changes here at LJ, if anything (including opinions) and it'll feel a lot less knee-jerky on the whole.

[identity profile] skullduggery.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I'm... Not really keen on losing the paid time I already have for my characters. Paying money for something like LJ accounts is a big deal for me especially as I don't have a lot of cash to just be throwing around right now, and maxed/paid accounts over at DW are even more money than here on LJ so the cost difference (of just what's being lost + assuming I did choose to get paid over at DW, the extra $12-$15 per account) would end up equaling something like an entire year's time per character down the drain.

Personally, my three paid accounts expire anywhere between March and June, but I'm sure other people have bought paid accounts up until very recently, leaving them potentially even more worse off.

If both the games I'm in move I'm on board no problem but my main thing is I hate switching back and forth from journal platforms for different games. I like having everything in one place so I can stay organized. But - I'll follow DDD if we move.

I will go where the games goes, because it looks like LJ is not only not going to fix but making it worse. And I dislike hoe they do not respect their customers at all.

If we move I think it would be a good idea to keep at least some connection to LJ. Like a link from the LJ to the next comm in DW, because there's a still a large portion of the Rp players that will check LJ first out of habit.

[identity profile] twotailmechanic.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I second that idea. It'll likely take me a while to get used to going to DW, so I imagine it would be the case with most people too. I'm almost done importing this account over there actually.

Since I'm not on Plurk anymore, I wasn't sure what the community feel was.

I'm more chuffed about LJ's official responses to its users than the style: it works fast enough for me, I do assume it will *become* operable for others within a few days, and the S2 format at least makes longer threads readable; but I'm paid.

I'll be here either way. Mayhaps "no opinion" is more accurate as far as it concerns game presence, but if we're talking strictly personal preference, my vote would be yes. Not sure if that information makes any difference in how you'd like to tally the votes.

As a curiosity, is the 2-3 day estimate including adddictions and sub communities?

[identity profile] urbandev.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm for a move. I know i've been preaching good consumer habits over plurk, but LJ has shown that they will not treat us reasonably, either. Not just in this, but frequently. And between major security glitches (because even if it is a glitch, that is Not Okay) and igrick's hostile attitude toward the userbase, I'm done with LJ. There is a huge difference between even the positive things Lj has done recently (their response to the most recent ddos attacks, for instance) and the DW response (an explicit explanation over twitter of what was happening with the site and were reacting). I like that dw doesn't seem to be afraid to communicate beyond "we're working on ot." That said, i will stay with DDD if it stays, and I let all my paids lapse a while ago, so I'm done.

Clarifying my answer, I really wouldn't want to mainly because I recently bought Yui here a paid account that was going to last her a year on LJ so if I move, I would have wasted a lot of money. If there's some way to get around that paid issue, great but... I don't think so.

While I would rather wait until that runs out, that's my only reason for being a little unsure. I'll still follow DDD whether or not it decides to move or stay!

Frankly, the only reasons I still gave LJ the time of day even before this latest incident were DDD and GB, and if I thought people would have been on board for a move then, I'd have proposed it.

Let's gtfo.

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I've got four more episodes to write and a good number of games, but I don't use LJ for anything else anymore.

[identity profile] originaldragoon.livejournal.com 2011-12-23 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely follow if DDD decides to move. But I'll stay if it decides to stay. I understand why people are frustrated, but I still say wait for a bit to see what happens and what bugs are fixed. So waiting to for mid January to make a final decision sounds good to me.

Thought of something else. Since the poll is happening now, and there are so many not happy with the new comment layout, I think it will be kind of obvious that the poll will lean towards moving, and not really give things to chance to settle in and for the bugs to worked out. How about having another poll later, just before the final decision, to see if player opinion changes. Right now people's opinions are going to be bias, not that I can really blame them.

I will follow DDD where it goes. This is my favorite game right now and I have so much invested in it.

However, I just paid for this account and I'd really rather not have that money go to waste. ;_; I'd rather stay here for now, but if we must move, I would advise that we create the back-up community now and move over in a few months, rather than with the deluge of users going right now. That way it is more deliberate, planned out, and seamless.
areyoulovers: (Default)

[personal profile] areyoulovers 2011-12-23 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd suggest making accounts now, because you don't need an invite code so you can get started right away-- but don't worry, that's basically what we'd be doing. We really want to make sure that if we move, there's as little interruption as possible and everyone gets set up nicely-- probably what we'd do is help everyone move first, write up guides to using DW and make sure we have all the lists/etc transferred and updated for DW before we import the community, so that once we're on DW, we could get started right away.
