Halloween Event: GO!

Happy Halloween! That's right, it's that time of the year again. We all get to RP while hopped up on ridiculous amounts of sugar and the weird odors of cheapo Halloween makeup and fog machines. Or just the sugar, whichever. This year though? DDD is going to do an event based on an Irish tradition for Halloween!

In Ireland, there is a traditional cake that is given out on Halloween called the Barmbrack. The Barmbrack is a sweet fruit bread that is used as a fortune telling game on Halloween. The barmbrack would be baked with a pea, a stick, a piece of cloth, a small coin, and a ring within it. When you receive the item in a slice, they mean different things.

So every character in DDD will receive a slice of Halloween barmback (and maybe a costume for fun) with the different items in it, except instead of the traditional meanings, the community translates the prizes into something much more mischevious. Here are the original meanings:

Pea: No marriage this year.
Stick: Either an unhappy marriage or constantly get into disputes.
Cloth: Constant bad luck/be poor.
Coin: Good fortune/will get rich.
Ring: Going to get married within the year.

So what happens when you get one from the community?

Pea: Your character is suddenly incredibly lonely, wants to get married so is trying really hard to get a date with anyone/if they have a bf/gf will try to propose whether they're ready or not. Might go shopping for wedding clothes, etc.

Stick: Start picking fights with everyone they talk to.

Cloth: Supreme bad luck. Tripping all over everything, getting fired, losing their money, run over by a bike, etc.

Coin: Suddenly good luck everywhere. Maybe win the lottery, get lucky and find that missing earring they've been looking for for two weeks, whatever's lucky to them.

Ring: Suddenly actually engaged to someone else in the community who received a ring. Start acting like new fiances immediately.

Simple to do and lots of fun! Happy Halloween everyone, feel free to use this post to plot your hearts out and remember: If you don't want to participate, just say your character never found the bread or didn't break it open. They do not have to actually eat the bread to participate-- just break it open and reveal what's inside (which could happen even while throwing it away). So if your character's already wary about eating community presents, there's your work around. This event takes place on October 29th-31st. Have fun!

I'm open to plotting with all of my characters. The only one I know for sure what I'd like to do is have Darcy get a Pea in her cake. :3

I'm going to be having oral surgery on the 29th, the day of the virus XD I have no idea what I'm going to be up for.

Can someone grind candy into a foodshake for you? Or will sucking on the straw lead to dry socket? It's going to severely limit your costume options with a puffy face! If your dental surgeon has any sense of the season, they'll give you all the best drugs to properly experience the festive terrors.

I'm giving myself the gift of great teeth this year and getting those braces I've always wanted. I need 8 freakin' teeth pulled (including my Peter Pan teeth), my facial surgeon said my biggest problem will be the impacted wisdom teeth. Unfortunately straws are not permitted, I'll be trying to slurp everything down with a spoon. Whatever they give me there had better be some codeine or special happy shit in it.

Always wanted? Jesus, are you some kind of masochist? I had to get quite a few permanent ones pulled when I got them, too... But that wasn't nearly as miserable as the actual having of the braces. I sure am encouraging.

I only ever got one wisdom tooth pulled. It came in at a weird angle and scratched the hell out of the inside of my cheek. I stubbornly left it for a week thinking I could tough it out until I developed a mouth callous. Then all my food tasted annoyingly like blood. All they gave me was some Valium and it did nothing for me, but it actually still felt better than the mouth sore. Ibuprofin and a day off work and things were more or less back to normal!

So let's multiply that by eight and...

I handle pain very well lol. Besides, once you've busted your mouth and knocked out several of your baby teeth everything else pales by comparison. My eldest sister has already put the fear in me too...and then my third eldest sister helped.

I don't think getting the bicuspids, baby teeth, and the top wisdom teeth pulled will be so bad. It's the impacted ones that are going to be my problem, but I won't miss them, they've been causing me on and off pain for years. That's the actual surgery part though, they'll have to go in and dig them out. The only risk is that they are close to the nerves so I might feel some numbness in my chin, but it's only a 3% chance.
