(no subject)

For those to understand my canon: Stargate; you will know that the Stargate is a portal to other worlds in that canon.

I was wondering what people (especially the mods) thought about makes the Stargate a world hopper?

I don't know if this is right way to go about this but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thoughts anyone?

Not only would you need two Stargates (an incoming and a receiving), I'd imagine it'd take a ridiculous amount of power to jump between realities. After all, to travel between galaxies, they require a ZPM.

Unless there are solar flares involved. Those always seem to be blamed on everything. :p

Yeah, plus you'd need the dialing addresses and those could get pretty complicated. They had to add in an extra character to go as far as Atlantis. Power aside, how long do you think an address would have to be to go to another reality altogether?

Well, if the world already exists in the Stargate reality (like, say, another version of Earth), it might just need an extra character to indicate reality.

There's already canon precedence for alternate-reality travel, however.

If I remember correctly, travel through a Stargate to other worlds is only uni-directional. (And I should have said black holes before, not solar flares. Solar flares cause time travel. Silly me.)

Well, we're not perfect experts. :^)

So, theoretically, we could have someone use the Stargate to leave the canon-verse, but that person would need another method of world hopping to return?

Sorry! -_-;; I tend to research everything and then come off sounding like a know-it-all-prat.

I think that's the case. But it sounds like there's a lot of effort that goes into the one-way worldhop in the first place. It's not like, say, switching on a TARDIS. b:

They could always unearth another Quantum-Mirror-type-thing. I always had my doubts about whether or not it was actually destroyed, anyway.

Nah, I was just commenting that it's been a while since I was into Stargate. I didn't think you sounded like a know-it-all at all.

You never know. It's up to all the Stargate players to decide with one another before implementing. We'll just have to see what they come up with.
