HALP!

I've run into a rather irritating problem. My muses are being problematic, and fading in and out of character (if you couldn't tell!)

So I've got a question: How do you guys keep your muses in check?

I'd love to rewatch their respective animes and reread their books, but I just don't have the time for that. And I'd prefer not to have to go on hiatus. Still, its a problem when you can't tell which of your four muses is talking at any given time.

Suggestions?

For me, I just try to keep them in random conversations or situations. Look at fanstuff, keep thinking about their fandom or show or whatever. Keep making history for them.

Stuff like that. :/

:/

I was going to say. I rewatch or reread but not all of it. Just bits and pieces to get the voice back in my head. But not all at once. Sort of space them out in reviewing. And/Or Wiki. :)

Oh God. I have to keep rewatching/rereading stuff over and over again in order to keep the muses IC, but sometimes it doesn't always work. Like if you have a character who doesn't appear/talk all that much in their respective canons <.

Are there any specific ones that are giving you trouble, or is it all of them?

Mostly Himiko and Kabuto, sadly. The other two either have some basic reactions they can fall back on - or can disappear off the comm for a while with out causing any upset.

But Himiko is kind of departing cannon when it comes to her reactions to certain relationships.

And I can't seem to play Kabuto right when he's out of his world, and out from Orochimaru's thumb.

[identity profile] jagan-glare.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
So it seems like it's a matter of trying to play a bit of headcanon while trying to remain IC with them. Hmmm.... :\

Have there ever been situations in either chara's canon that would be similar to what they're dealing with in the comm?

Well, one of my problems might be that I don't 'get' post Kabuchimaru Kabuto as much as I do his other self. So while the cannon is similar to whats going on here (the idea being to help the Sound move through its cannon) its still really hard for me to play.

As for Himiko...I don't think she has any relationships in the anime, correct? So that really is uncharted territory. (Though just talking about it is helping!)

I stay in Maraich-mode most the time.
Kurt is so extremely different that there's no real way to confuse the two.
And for Klaus, I go over whichever part of the canon he's at before I post with him.

Hmm. Maybe if I made a point of only roleplaying one character at a time? That might stop Kabuto and Karakael getting confused, and The Visitor and Himiko.

*nodnod* Admittedly, I'm not a huge Naruto fan (most of my knowledge comes from friends and this place, l-lol), but I do understand what you mean by not really "getting" a character. Does Kabuto get to go back to normal at all in canon? (random question)

No romantic relationships that I'm aware of, no. There's the obvious work ones that she has, and then the past she's got with Ban and Yamato - and then there's some manga stuff that doesn't get covered in the anime (least I don't remember it being touched upon).

I'm lazy, and especially since I'm still getting used to using this laptop I don't like to log out a bunch. I tend to stick to one character for a period of time.
Like, if I post as Klaus then I'm ready to reply as Klaus for that period of time.

I don't think so? At least not yet. Then again the 'normal' him might have merely been a persona, and was a sham to begin with. =.=; (And its okay that you're not a big Naruto fan. Most people aren't XD)

Hmm. I do know there was something hinted with Kagame, but as we don't have one here, I might just ignore that. I guess what the real problem stems from is that Himiko is so young, especially in the manga. So its kind of hard to square the fact that she's a hardened transporter with the fact that shes at most nineteen. (I think I've done okay so far? What do you think?)

That might work best, especially when I'm so unsure of the characters. (And it might force Kabuto into some more interesting conversations...living up to another suggestion I've had!)

[identity profile] shunraiken.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I do the same thing. I'll go through and do all of, say, my Colette tags, and then I'll go do my Guy tags, etc. etc. It's easier to keep their voices distinct that way. When I'm tagging as one character, I'm tagging as that character. Any tags I get for any of my other characters during that time are going to wait their turn until I'm tagging with that particular character.

Ooof! That would drive my inbox crazy! ^.^;

But you have a good idea. I'll see if I can make it work!

[identity profile] shunraiken.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
It gets REALLY bad when I've been tagging with four or five of my characters that day, ahaha. But I find it's easiest to just get in one character's mindset and stay there for a while rather than constantly switching back and forth.

[identity profile] jagan-glare.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Methinks I'm going to hit up a friend of mine tomorrow about this, *lol*

Our GB crew needs to expand - I miss having Ginji around, ;_; But yeah, I get what you're saying; it's a freaking anime stereotype to have people so hardened and worldly and...still teenagers...XD But then again, you still have her past, what with being pretty much the last of the Last Children, still being pissed off at Ban for what happened with Yamato, and so on...and yeah, she's only eighteen, nineteen years old (depending on what you're going by; since I play Ban from the anime, he's 21 as opposed to being just 18 in the manga).
sound_council: (consealment)

[personal profile] sound_council 2008-10-28 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
*nodnod* That's what seems to be the common consensus.

Though it's strange...I can play Karakael and The Visitor off eachother with almost no problem, despite them being only subtly different, while playing Kabuto and Himiko, who are almost completely different, is really hard to keep straight!

[identity profile] shunraiken.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I find it depends on who I'm threading with, too. There are some characters whom it's just easier for certain characters of mine to thread with and their responses come much more naturally. For instance, I find it easiest to bounce Yuan off of Kratos, Jacky, Jade, Luke, Asch and Peony. For Rin, it's easiest when she's talking with Archer, Issei, Rider or Ban. Some characters just kind of "click" with each other, I think.

:D Thank you!

Yes. Ban with out a Ginji should not be!

Hmm. In the manga, Himiko is 16 (I think), so her being 19 might actually work.

I can do the 'hardened transporter' routine rather well, its getting her flashes of 'girlyness' that's the hard part.

I've found that cannon-mates make it much easier as well. (Which is why I'm flailing so much now that Orochimaru is less active). Its much easier to solidify a characters reactions when you can work with in the confines of how they would act in cannon.

But you're right, Himiko certainly gets along with different characters than Kabuto, though K&V have basically the same friend set.

[identity profile] jagan-glare.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Not a problem! :3

It's just...weird to have to just assume what's going on and whatnot. Rider and I tried to get a friend of ours to join up here as Ginji, but he backed out, >: so...we'll see what happens in the long run.

It would make sense, since just about everyone is aged up about three years, so 19 would work out rather well.

Ah, when she actually gets to be somewhat feminine? I'd probably rewatch the episodes where she does get to act kinda girlie; I'm thinking episodes 36 and 39 for starters.
