the time has come. for EVEN MORE PLOTTING!

Ok, everyone, we need your help!

Scratch-mun and I have been discussing Kefka and Scratch's rivalry, and one of the ideas that came up was "Kefka helps create a doomed timeline to yoink the trolls to safety from" along with "if the comm is hosting a doomed timeline, does Scratch go with it since he's on the community? What about future Kanaya?"

So, how interested would people be in timeline shenanigans? If a "doomed timeline" was created, who would want to be in it? How would Homestuck people not in that timeline react? How about people who want to study the comm as it does things to timelines? Is anyone not interested? And how will this work with canon?

--

Scratch-mun here is coming clean and admitting that she has pretty much no idea if everyone even IS in the same timeline or just in different points in time or what. Scratch-mun is not a very good communicator. She will stop referring to herself in the third person now - I'd really appreciate it if you helped me out here. ;; Then I can actually decide at what point in canon Scratch is.

(By this point, you might be suspecting I am a horrible RPer. I take full responsibility.)

That aside, it's pretty clear that as soon as we start playing out splitting timelines, things can get really complex, hence the existence of this post. I assume most of the HS cast has a grasp of how alpha and beta-and-so-on timelines work, but if anyone (even if you're not in the cast) needs an explanation, don't be afraid to ask! I'll just leave you with one note to keep in mind for all this: Scratch states in canon that the main timeline is the only one where he is born and the only one where he dies. If the community drags everyone from the cast into a beta, including him, shit is going to get seriously weird. If everyone but him goes... I guess it would make things easier, and it might be interesting in the sense that people get to see what's SUPPOSED to happen and... such.

I'm not sure about the kids, but I'm sure most of the trolls are in the same timeline. Tavros, Aradia, Gamzee, Eridan, Sollux Vriska, Equius... They all entered the Veil not long ago.

Kanaya, Feferi, and Terezi are in the "future", though I don't know if they're all in the same point in time, whatever that may be. Not sure where Karkat and Nepeta are...

AS FOR DOOMING TIMELINES... I think it sounds like a fun idea, though I was actually planning to let Tavros go through his canon death, have him chill in a bubble for a while, and then figure out a way to make him, you know, not dead anymore, BUT. If everyone in Tavros' timeline wants to go along with this, I'm game! \o/ I think it sounds really cool, in fact, and it'd be a good way to deal with the fact that the comic is still ongoing and that we may not see what's coming for a while yet.

Sorry this is so late. DX I was hardly on the computer last week. ANYWAY. I kind of like what you suggested for the grab bag virus: have Tavros go through 'what's to come' or some similar virus like that, then he can branch off to the delta timeline, if that's what we, as a cast, decide to do!

[identity profile] killerbaseball.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so it sounds like there seem to be no betas here. Some confusion is good too, because it allows Scratch to feel confused and the dipshit deserves it.

I like the theory Jade's got going on (http://triple-d-ooc.livejournal.com/2183767.html?thread=46729815#t46729815), too! Your plans for Tavros could definitely be compatible with that. ouo

[identity profile] cannotbelieve.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Jade is currently working on a theory that states that the community takes the alpha timeline itself, turns it into what we'll tentatively call the delta timeline, and through some unknown power keeps it impervious from the effects of predestination; however, there is a note that certain worlds appear particularly excluded, and she isn't sure which. (Naturally, OOCly, these are worlds that the muns don't want to send off the rails, usually the kind where people are prevented from teleporting in and/or out; Jade, being in possession of one of the fourth walls and still having her Prospit-based precognition, might have some idea of this, but she has no idea what it means and will just go with it.)

This might fit with the plan in the post above. Jade's research, especially now since Rose is gone, is less "are we actually going to be doomed if we change fate" and more "fate has already been changed, are we doomed right now".

[identity profile] carryarifle.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. (The HS cast still needs to have that IC planning meeting that we've been talking about since... well, since we had a Rose and Dave.)

[identity profile] killerbaseball.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
God, time is definitely not my field. I like this idea a whole lot, actually! I'm still sort of obsessing over Scratch, though, because stable time loops are a bitch and who knows what sorts of deviations could prevent him from being created and how? (Like the timeline Davesprite came from... Turns out what happened to John wasn't the only reason it could have never happened 8|)

So heck, maybe the only way we can feasibly deal with this is by having this delta timeline, protected from paradoxes and whatnot by the community itself, alongside the canon timeline, which Scratch is irrevocably bound to. Not only do all the kids/trolls get to be happy, they also get to be horrified at what was supposed to happen all along.

The main thing here is that she has no idea whether this is true for their timeline or whether it's one of the worlds where DDD has failed to superimpose its own idea of fate. Basically, and I've made this comparison before, the question is whether or not being from a You Can't Fight Fate canon wins over being in a Screw Destiny game. That's the big question I think you guys are getting at as well OOCly, and obviously, OOC decisions apply here.

Yeah, pretty much. 8|;
