So… I’ve brought this up to a couple people and I figured I would mention it here in the event that there are loose ends your characters need to tie up with Phoenix and/or Larry. I’m holding out for the mental regression virus because I’ve been looking forward to it since it was first mentioned, but shortly after it’s over, I’m planning to drop. I’ve found myself unable to keep up for the last couple months, I’ve been dropping threads like they were on fire, and I’ve been losing the characters’ voices for some time now; throwing them back in the game hasn’t seemed to help.

I was debating making this post because the decision isn’t really set in stone, but I know Phoenix in particular has gotten involved in a few small plots lately and I didn’t want to drop without warning. Granted, come September, I might find myself with a surge of time and inspiration and I may look back on this with a sheepish “lol, just kidding.” But as of right now, I don’t see that happening. This has honestly been coming for a long time, as anyone who talks to me on a personal level can tell you.

This is seriously the most fun I’ve had in the 13 years that roleplaying has been a hobby of mine. In the off chance that I do find myself with more time and inspiration, I’ll be thrilled because you guys are so awesome. Don’t ever change. ♥

So, loose ends that need tying up? Let me know here, please!

[Edit] Er, I just wanted to reiterate that this decision isn't set in stone, so this is by no means a goodbye post! As I said to Frost-mun in a comment: "I'm still not 100% sure what's going to happen and (even at the risk of sounding like a pretentious idiot later), I didn't think it would be fair to drop with no warning."

...though, now that I think about it, I should have just gone directly to the people who are involved with the plots Phoenix is a part of right now. S-sorry. Poor judgment call. -_-

I honestly don't know. I don't want to stop playing him, but so much of his characterization is wrapped up in Phoenix. And I have no idea how we'd play it if a new Phoenix were to app, especially as they'll probably be together if/when Idgie leaves. I just...don't know if I can be the Edgeworth to anyone else's Phoenix, not with this Edgeworth and all the development they share.

I completely understand the sentiment with not wanting to play Edgeworth with another Phoenix -- I had the same issue when the new Commodore Norrington joined the board. I just can't keep up the relationship James and Shuraiya had together with a new James who knows nothing about him. Of course, that's a COMPLETELY different situation, since it's a cross-fandom pairing but I HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN AND YEAH. ;___;

A-are you considering at all applying for new characters? Maybe?

Yeah, that looked so hard to have to do, Shuraiya dealing with a Norrington who didn't know him at all. I love putting Edgeworth through wangst, but fuck, that kind of thing would probably kill his soul. ^_^;; The most difficult part of it would be the fact that Phoenix and Edgeworth know each other off-comm, had a huge history before the comm, and will have a history and daily interactions after (assuming Phoenix leaves, I'm still hoping so hard that he won't have to).

If a new Phoenix comes in the most likely scenario would be them playing as an entirely new Phoenix, but the Phoenix that our PW crew knew would assumedly still be on their world, and one way or another Phoenix and Edgeworth will be in a relationship by that point and... I just don't know. How in the hell do people handle losing and regaining canon-mates their characters are in a relationship with and/or has tons of development with? >_>;;;

I don't know that I'd ever want to. I can only RP my absolute favorite characters, hence why I've only ever RPed one other character in years of RPing. And I don't want to stop playing Edgey, I love him too much and I've put stupid amounts of development into him. I don't want to just lose that.

It was, dude. Even doing that one single log with him just about killed me, I felt just horrible for having put Shuraiya through that, because of all the shit he's gone through in his life canonically. He's getting closer and closer to just giving up completely on ever seeing James again (even though he doesn't want to), because of the way the community works and all. That said, I really enjoyed (from a writer's point of view) how their meeting played out; I got to give Shuraiya some sense of closure.

No, it's a somewhat similar situation, it's interesting to hear how it played out for you!

Obviously I'm far too emotionally invested in the whole thing. I've almost fallen in love with Idgie's Phoenix as hard as Edgeworth has. XD And Phoenix is basically Edgeworth's one chance at becoming a somewhat normally adjusted and happy person, so if Phoenix leaves I can't stand the thought of not having them together, even off the community. Clearly I need to take a step back, but I don't wanna. ._.

It still kills him to see him posting (especially when he agreed to meet up with Freyja, Shuraiya was fucking livid over that) and not remembering, not having any memory of their history together. It gave him something of closure, but... man, that was his first love, you know? He, too, had gotten the chance to live something of a normal, happy life in the Caribbean, but that basically all got taken away from him and he was dumped back into reality.

Well..I kinda have been going through the same thing with the past and the current Azula. While it's not exactly the same (previous Zula had no romantic involvement with my characters), my Mai did go through some character developement. She got basically banished and when the new Azula showed up, she was ordered to return (since this Azula had no memory of the details that led up to Mai's banishment). However, Mai still had the resentment of Azula that was carried over to such a degree that the new Azula banished her for different reasons. Mai, who had been childhood friends with Ty Lee and Azula, now...just has so much resentment and bitterness built up to the degree that while no one on the community (minus Ty Lee) likes Azula, Mai loathes her the most.

...and it's not the exact thing but it's something and I totally understand what you're going through. If this Azula drops and we get another one, my Ty Lee and Mai will have more drama and shit to get through.

No, that's helpful too! I know this stuff happens here all the time, I'm just finding it boggling to try to deal with it, especially given the relationship they'll be in and the fact they see each other often in person. They work together often, and by the time they're together they'll be seeing a hell of a lot more of each other. It helps to see how other people have dealt with similar situations.

When it comes to what was happening in their world, did you and Ty Lee treat Azula as if she was the same one, or as if her memories of all DDD developments were wiped by the comm, or what?

I (both Ty Lee and Mai are played by me, I couldn't wait for a Mai to be applied for so I just apped her in the end) treated Azula as if she was the same person but had forgotten. Ty Lee (the character) was confused under the circumstances but didn't question it, it's not in her nature to question what Azula says so she just went with it. And Mai was too shocked at being ordered to return to say anything and played dumb.

It depends, with my situation the three were apart for some time due to plot so something happening to one that made them forget the comm wasn't farfetched. If another Phoenix is applied for, maybe it could be one from another dimension of some kind or a virus hit him that made him forget the community (but not his interactions with the people that he'd interact with normally, I've never played the games but, y'know).

Yeah, them being apart for so long must have made it a little easier, at least. If it was just Phoenix and Edgeworth in the PW cast it would be a lot easier to work with any new Phoenix on how to account for it, but our cast is a pretty good size and several of them are characters that would be seeing Phoenix on an almost daily or weekly basis, so having THEIR Phoenix just randomly forget everything about the comm would be difficult at best. Plus I'm just selfish and want Edgeworth to have his Phoenix. XD

Considering the number of people his reappearance would affect and the fact we've already got another PW dimension due to Apollo Justice (the sequel from seven years later) canon, I guess another dimension wouldn't be too hard to account for, but the new Phoenix-mun would need to agree to it. Personally I don't think I'd be able to take a mind-wipe virus though, because their Phoenix wouldn't be Idgie's Phoenix. Even though that would probably be the easiest way to handle it (aside from the possibility of them not wanting to keep things like the Phoenix and Edgeworth relationship, which is happening largely off-comm).
